Policies for All Submissions

The information below applies to every IDC 2027 track. Please read it before submitting — some requirements are grounds for desk rejection.

ACM Policies

By submitting your article to an ACM Publication, you are hereby acknowledging that you and your co-authors are subject to all ACM Publications Policies. Alleged violations of any ACM Publications Policy will be investigated by ACM and may result in a full retraction of your paper, in addition to other potential penalties, as per ACM Publications Policy.

Any research in submitted manuscripts that involves human subjects must go through the appropriate ethics review requirements that apply to the authors' research environment. Please see the 2021 ACM Publications Policy on Research Involving Human Participants and Subjects before submitting.

Full and Short Papers and Pictorials need to be anonymized for submission, following the ACM CHI Anonymization Policy. See each call page for the specifics for the different submission types. Text generated from a large-scale language model (LLM), such as ChatGPT, must be clearly marked where such tools are used for purposes beyond editing the author’s own text. Please carefully review the April 2023 ACM Policy on Authorship before you use these tools. This SIGCHI blog post describes approaches to acknowledging the use of such tools and we refer to it for guidance. Note that the LaTeX template will default to hiding the Acknowledgements section while in review mode – please make sure that any LLM disclosure is available in your submitted version. While we do not anticipate using tools on a large scale to detect LLM-generated text, we will investigate submissions brought to our attention and desk-reject papers where LLM use is not clearly marked.

Open Access Publishing

ACM publications are fully open access. Authors publish either through their institution's participation in ACM Open, or by paying an Article Processing Charge. Not all article types carry an APC — at IDC, APCs apply only to Full and Short Papers and Pictorials.

To check whether an APC applies to you, consult the list of participating institutions and the APC Waivers and Discounts Policy.

Current APC rates for 2027 to be confirmed.

ORCID iD

Please ensure that you and your co-authors obtain an ORCID ID, so you can complete the publishing process for your accepted paper. ACM has been involved in ORCID from the start, and we have recently made a commitment to collect ORCID IDs from all of our published authors. We are committed to improving author discoverability, ensuring proper attribution, and contributing to ongoing community efforts around name normalization; your ORCID ID will help in these efforts.

Selection and Participation of Children

IDC promotes an ethical engagement of human participants in research activities and asks to include a short paragraph about “Selection and Participation of Children”.

IDC encourages the research community to approach both research and publication with a commitment to values such as plurality, equity, and accessibility. These core values form the foundation of our community, and we expect everyone in the IDC community to respect these principles and publish in alignment with them.

While you are preparing your publication and the “Selection and Participation of Children” paragraph we would encourage you to consider the following questions:

  • How were children involved and selected to participate in the research? How were Plurality, Equity, and Accessibility concerns addressed, if relevant?
  • What benefits were there, if any, to the participants and their broader communities of being involved in this research? What procedures are in place for follow-up after the study, if any? Will the participants and/or community be informed of the results of this research?
  • What data did you collect, observe, generate or reuse? How were these collected, observed or generated? How were security, privacy and confidentiality assured?
  • Describe how you requested the necessary permission to obtain, process, preserve and share the data, including how you ascertained that caregivers, parents, children or others providing consent/ascent understood what they were providing permission for?
  • How were other ethical issues, if any, addressed (proactively, retrospectively) in this research?

If there were no children simply write "no children participated in this work". If other human participants were involved just explain more about their engagement and, if applicable, the university ethical approval process you have gone through. We understand that this process may be less straightforward in some countries compared to others. This subsection will not count towards the length limit. NOTE: Even if this information is elsewhere in the paper, this section is still required. You should place this section before the references. Examples can be seen in the IDC 2022, IDC 2023, IDC 2024 and IDC 2025 proceedings. Submissions that do not include this section will be desk-rejected.

Paper Accessibility

IDC is also committed to lowering barriers to access the resources and contributions published at the conference. In this perspective, we invite authors of any track to follow the SIGCHI accessibility instructions.

Inclusion

Moreover, the IDC community advocates for an environment based on diversity, inclusion and equity values starting from promoting the use of an inclusive language. We would like to encourage authors of any track to respect the inclusive language.

For what concerns inclusive language and accessibility we recommend sticking to the instructions provided by the SIGCHI Accessible Writing Guide.

Adherence to the ethics and accessibility guidelines is a mandatory requirement for getting the paper published, while we also highly encourage authors to consider and go by the SIGCHI instructions for inclusion in their contributions.
