Preparing a Bid

Any member of the IDC community may submit a bid to organize and run an IDC conference.

Contents of the bid

A bid for the IDC conference consists of three major components:

Leadership & Organising Experience

Identify the proposed General Chair(s) and briefly describe their relevant conference-organising experience, leadership capabilities, and involvement in the IDC community. Where possible, indicate other key members of the organising team and the expertise they would bring.

Host Location & Proposed Dates

Identify the proposed host city and preferred conference dates, or a small set of possible dates. Briefly describe the location’s accessibility, suitability for an international conference, and experience hosting comparable academic or professional events.

Conference Theme & Vision

Propose a clear and compelling theme that gives the conference a distinctive identity and reflects timely issues in interaction design and children. Briefly explain its relevance to the IDC community and how it could shape the programme and overall conference experience without unduly narrowing the scope of submissions.

Note:

The bid need not contain detailed estimates of costs or bids from specific venues. These will be negotiated later in the planning process. Bids should consider proximity to major airports, hotel and conference space, and the experience of the conference leadership team including the general chairs, program chairs, and major submission track chairs (if known).

How bids are reviewed

  • A call for bids is publicized to the IDC and broader HCI community.
  • Once bids are received, the bids are shared with the steering committee. The committee is given at least two weeks to review the bids and ask questions and provide comments.
  • After the question period, the bids are voted on by the Steering Committee. Each committee member gets a vote. The vote is conducted by the SC chairs.

Conference Dates

The dates for annual IDC conferences should be set with consideration given to the dates and locations of related conferences such as ISLS, Creativity and Cognition, and Constructionism. Ideally IDC should seek to avoid date overlap with closely related conferences.
